LETHBRIDGE – Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren and the Star Wars van will be available for photo ops with the multitudes of child (and adult) Star Wars aficionados at this year’s Exhibition Park Children’s Festival. Heck, everyone can even come dressed as their favourite character!

Because it takes place on the weekend of May 4 and 5, the theme this year is appropriately Star Wars related. However, according to Supervisor of Events and Entertainment, Jackie French, there are also dozens of other non-galactic related activities for everyone, including a big-block Lego park.

“We also have a dog show that’s new this year. So that’s going to be an interactive dog agility show where you can come and watch. You’ll be able to interact with the dogs after the show….and we have the princesses coming back… They’ll be doing a lot of sing-a-long songs for the kids.”

Family favorites that are back this year include the VRKADE Virtual reality game booth, food truck alley, the petting zoo, laser tag, reverse bungee jump attraction and balloon sculpting.

And Exhibition Park Spokesperson Doug Kryzanowski says with the help of their sponsors, kids can take part in any of the events at no additional cost.

“This year, what we’re able to do is to offer all of the events in-house as free of charge to everybody with admission. So, the admission is $5. Under three are free. But once you walk in the door everything is free of charge.”

There will also be a trade show component, with about 60 vendors taking part. Child minding while shopping will be free of charge.

Parking for the event is also free.

Friday, the event takes place from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

All tickets can be purchased at the gate.
