Hurricanes select St. Albert product with first-round bantam draft pick

CALGARY – The Lethbridge Hurricanes have chosen right-winger Noah Boyko with their first-round selection in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.

The 5’11”, 164-pound product of St. Albert helped lead the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers to the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League championship over the Lethbridge Golden Hawks. During the regular season Boyko had 25 goals and 27 assists. The Hurricanes chose Boyko with the 16th-overall pick.

In the second round the Hurricanes used the 37th-overall pick, acquired from Moose Jaw, to select Moose Jaw-born goaltender Bryan Thomson, who had a 3.72 goals-against average with Notre Dame. With the 38th pick Lethbridge chose defenseman Jonah Regier, also out of Notre Dame.

Lethbridge-born forward Ridly Greig was selected eighth overall by the Brandon Wheat Kings. Greig, 5’8″ and 137 lbs., scored 22 goals and added 49 assists for the Golden Hawks during the regular season. Teammate Scout Truman, also of Lethbridge, was selected 43rd overall by Medicine Hat.

The first overall pick was Kaiden Guhle of Sherwood Park, who was selected by the Prince Albert Raiders.

Ninth round
– 187th – Jacob Boucher – forward from Fort Sask. Rangers
– 189th – Ben Mosher – forward with Delta H.A. Wild Bantam Prep
