CANBROOK, B.C. –  After a 5-4 win against the Saskatoon Blades Friday night and then beating the Kootenay Ice by a score of 5-2 on Saturday night, the Canes racked up a 4-1 win over the Ice on Sunday afternoon.

The first period produced little action, other than a couple of minor penalties and ended scoreless.

The second frame, however, made up for first.

Just 16 seconds in, Jordy Bellerive charted an unassisted goal, his 42 of the season.  Less than two minutes later, Ty Prefontaine has the Canes ahead 2-0, assisted by Keltie Jeri-Leon and Egor Zudilov.

Just after the six-minute mark things got rough.  Calen Addison was penalized for checking to the head of Kootenay Centre Brad Ginnell and assessed both a five-minute major and a 10-minute misconduct.

The following power play opened a scoring opportunity for the Ice, as Colton Veloso put his team on the board but, the period ended in favour of the Canes 2-1.

The final 20 minutes again produced little action, other than three minor penalties for the Canes, for charging, tripping and interference with Kootenay’s goalie. The Ice had numerous chances on the power play and out-shot the Canes 12-6.

Once again, the Canes’ energy resurfaced near the end of the period. Two-minutes before the buzzer, Brad Morrison launched a shot off an assist by Jordy Bellerive and Jake Elmer.  Then, 20-seconds later, Taylor Ross put the puck into Kootenay’s empty net, taking the score to 4-1.

Sunday afternoon’s win takes the Hurricane record to 29-24-6-0 on the season, one point back of the Medicine Hat Tigers for first in the Central Division.

The next game for the Canes’ play host to the Prince Albert Raiders at the Enmax Centre on Wednesday.
