LETHBRIDGE – A 27-year-old Blood Tribe woman has admitted to trafficking a controlled substance, in connection with a fentanyl bust on the Blood Reserve in November.

Charnelle Day Chief appeared in Lethbridge Provincial Court Friday, Feb. 16, at which point she entered the guilty plea and her lawyer requested the preparation of a pre-sentence report. The report will assess Day Chief’s personal circumstances and potential for rehabilitation.

The matter was then adjourned to Apr. 24 for sentencing, with admitted facts of the case expected to be delivered to the court at that time.

Day Chief was arrested along with two other women on the Blood Reserve on Nov. 6, 2017, as part of a traffic stop by the Blood Tribe Police Service Crime Reduction Unit.

Police say a search of the vehicle turned up eight grams of methamphetamine, two grams of Fentanyl powder, 41 Fentanyl tablets (Oxy 80), a loaded syringe with suspected meth, cash and four cellphones. The estimated street value of the drugs is $4,460.

As for the two co-accused, Tamara Crow Chief is scheduled to appear in Cardston Provincial Court on Mar. 5, while Kasey Day Chief has her matters set for trial on July 4, also in Cardston.
