Long list of candidates for upcoming Municipal Elections

LETHBRIDGE – There will be 29 candidates running for eight spots on Lethbridge City Council, while three people have registered at City Hall to run for the Mayor’s spot.
 
All incumbent city councillors, including Rob Miyashiro, Liz Iwaskiw, Blaine Hyggen, Joe Mauro, Jeffrey Coffman, Jeff Carlson and Ryan Parker will run again. The only Councillor who is not running, is Bridget Mearns.
 
Incumbent Mayor Chris Spearman will run for a second term. Up against him, will be Robert Jantzen and Martin Heavy Head.
 
16 people have registered to run for seven trustee spots on the Public School Board, while in the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Separate Regional Division No. 4, Ward 1’s (Coaldale) Frances Cote, Ward 4’s (Pincher Creek) Judy Lane and Ward 5’s (Taber, Bow Island) Patricia Bremner are in by acclamation.
 
Ward 2 (Lethbridge, Coalhurst, Raymond, Stirling) will have 7 people vying for five positions.
 
Ward 3 (Picture Butte) still has no candiate, although the nomination period will be open for another five business days from 10 a.m until noon.
