LETHBRIDGE – Lethbridge City Council has given the go-ahead to 429 Squadron to put up a monument on the north side of City Hall, on the grass walkway adjacent to 4 Avenue South.

The unveiling ceremony will take place on Remembrance Day (November 11), and will comemmorate the 75-year old relationship between the Squadron and the City.

In 1944, the City of Lethbridge adopted 429 Squadron, and it has been granted “Freedom of the Skies,” performing a fly-past at the Cenotaph on seven of the past nine Rembrance Day ceremonies in the city.

The monument will be made of granite, stand about 4.5 ft tall, about 3.5 ft wide and will weigh about 3000 lb.

All of the design, fabrication, installation and maintenance of the monument will be paid for by 702 Wing Squadron, on behalf of 429 Transport Squadron.
