LETHBRIDGE –  After 13-years as a trustee, Lethbridge School District 51 Trustee and current Board Chair Mich Forster has decided not to run in October’s municipal school board elections.

Forster is stepping down to give others a chance to serve on the school board

Forster has not only been a student and graduate of the Lethbridge Public School system, he has also worked within the system. He taught in the public system for 35 years at both Winston Churchill and LCI, and also served as principal of both schools.

Forster was elected to the Public School Board as a Trustee in 2001, and only took a break for the 2004-2007 term, when he had an opportunity to teach in Japan for a few months.

After re-election in 2007, Forster spend another 10-yers as a Trustee and took on the position of Chair in 2012.

“Lethbridge School District has been a huge part of my life for a long, long time and it is going to be interesting to see what life after those years will be like,” he said. “I have enjoyed the many relationships with staff over the years, but the absolute best part has been the kids. I can’t go anywhere without running into a former student, and now, sometimes the children of former students whom I also taught. It’s been a great ride.”

As he leaves office and local residents prepare to go to the polls in the October 16 Civic election, Forster asks the electorate to carefully consider the candidates before them, as “the right trustees is critical to supporting the staff and leadership team of the District and continuing to provide the best learning opportunities for our students.”
