LETHBRIDGE – Two men from Magrath are facing more than a dozen charges in connection with numerous robberies over the last five months.

Lethbridge Police say the evening of August 28, they responded to reports of two robberies– one at a Fas Gas, and the other at a Mac’s convenience store. In both instances, a male went into the stores, produced a weapon and demanded cash before leaving.

Just before 1 a.m. August 29, the suspect in the robberies was found in a vehicle with another man, in the 1700 block of 17 Street South, and both were arrested.

Police believe that one of the men arrested is responsible for 10 robberies dating back to April, and the other may have been involved in three of them as well.

31-year old Derek Ross Blackmer has been charged with 10 counts of robbery and is in custody. He’ll be in court September 1, 2017.

26-year old Joshua Lloyd Alston has been charged with three counts of robbery and was released from custody. He is scheduled to be in court September 20, 2017.

Police say the robberies were motivated by drug use.
