Taber to benefit from multi-million-dollar donation

TABER – A new fire hall in Taber will bear the name of an area resident who left behind a generous gift for the community.

William Ferguson, who lived in the Municipal District of Taber, bequeathed the town approximately $2.4 million when he died in October, 2016. The town has decided to make more affordable housing the priority for the funds.

At a council meeting Monday, July 17, a motion was passed to devote $1.5 million to a new fire hall. The idea is that a more centrally-located hall will improve overall response times, reducing the cost of new housing that meets residential fire standards.

The new fire hall will be named after Ferguson.
