KBE wants more done after AHS firings

BLOOD RESERVE — The Kainai Board of Education is not backing off a list of demands, even after the dismissal of two Alberta Health Services employees.

In a news release Tuesday, June 27 KBE said it would have no comment on the firings, which it called “unfortunate for the two employees.” AHS announced the dismissals late Monday, following an investigation. Ramona Big Head, Tatsikiisaapo’p middle school principal, said that following a training session she received a text message meant for someone else that referred to her by a racial slur.

KBE responded June 22 with what it calls a “letter of protest,” calling for the creation of a cultural centre, and other steps towards reconciliation and healing.

“We have discussed the matter with Chief Roy Fox and he has informed us that he has been and remains in close contact with the AHS Ministry to keep the dialogue open and productive,” KBE said Tuesday.
