LETHBRIDGE –  As part of the City of Lethbridge’s commitment to the 2017 Southern Alberta Water Charter, a number of businesses are participating in something called the “Blue-W” initiative.

Stephanie Vehnon, Communications and Outreach Specialist for the City of Lethbridge says so far, seven/locations are taking part, including the north and south Walmarts, the downtown Public Library and the University of Lethbridge.

“The Blue-W are actually window stickers that can be obtained and placed within your office or business window that just lets everyone in the community know that they can fill their water bottles at those locations.”

The second initiative is also trying out new “hydration stations” at most summer events including the Dragon Boat Races and Canada Day celebrations at Henderson Park, and the Street Wheelers event at Galt Gardens. The idea is the same, there will be stations set up where people can fill up their water bottles at no charge.

“They’re more just a trial to see if people will use them, or if they’ll be utilized at events” explains Vehnon.”

The Blue-W initiative runs until the September long weekend.
