City of Lethbridge asking residents to conserve water

Mar 17, 2017 | 3:24 PM

LETHBRIDGE – The quick warm-up across southern Alberta has forced the City of Lethbridge to ask all residents to limit water usage.

The snow melt and ice jams along the Oldman River have resulted in high turbidity, making it more difficult to treat at the water treatment plant.

By cutting back on the amount you use, it will allow the city to maintain storage levels and avoid a boil water order.

You are asked to limit your water usage to essentials like cooking, while avoiding the use of things like dishwashers, washing machines and taking long showers. They also ask that you refrain from all outdoor uses like washing your car.

Residents are also strongly discouraged from water hoarding, as it creates an increase in water consumption in a short period of time, adding to difficulties at the plant.

The notice will be in effect until further notice, with the city providing an update when it becomes available.
