YWCA Getting Ready To Stock Up On Community Generosity

LETHBRIDGE – Lethbridge YWCA Lethbridge & District’s annual “Stockings of Hope campaign kicks off on Monday, November 21st.

As the holiday season begins to get underway, the YWCA want to remind the public of their annual “Stockings of Hope” campaign.

In its sixth year the gifting campaign ensures that the joys of the season is spread to those women and children most in need.

Green stockings are hung on the fireplace in the YWCA lobby and include a wish-list for a particular woman, as well as information for any of her children who may be with her.

The green stockings will go towards families who are currently using YWCA programs & resources or who have used these resources in the past year.

The YWCA also is seeking help from the public to fill their red stockings which feature a wish-list of critical needs used by the agency’s clients throughout the year.

Kelly Mettler, YWCA Partnership Manager says that in the campaign’s sixth year the not-for-profit expects to help anywhere from 100-140 families through generous donations.

“I think that everyone has had a time when things were a little tough for them but sometimes things are very difficult and they may not have a turkey or any presents under the tree. When families receive this they are very thankful. It’s the difference between having a holiday and not having one and feeling very sad.”

Mettler notes that the program has mutual benefits for those who participates as most gift givers express happiness as they shop for their chosen YWCA family.

Residents and businesses can stop by the YWCA to adopt a stocking. They purchase some or all of the gifts on the wish-list, and deliver them unwrapped to the YWCA on or before December 16, 2016
