Peaceful Rally For Lethbridge Immigration Office

Oct 22, 2016 | 11:20 AM

LETHBRIDGE – A group of concerned Lethbridge residents will gather outside the Lethbridge Family Services – Immigrant Services building today to draw attention to the need for better service from Immigration, Refugees and citizenship Canada in Lethbridge.

Sophie Osaya and Paulos Gote have brought together a broad network of newcomer and Canadian-born residents that agree with the need for an immigration office in Lethbridge.

“Lethbridge has over 30,000 immigrants and anytime they need to see an Immigration Officer, including an Immigration Doctor, they are required to travel to Calgary,” said Osaya. “We, as concerned residents and newcomers, are kindly requesting the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship address this issue and to provide a permanent point of service for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canadian Lethbridge.”

Local Member of Parliament Racheal Harder will be in attendance at the Rally.

In a media release, Harder stressed that the significant population of new citizens, temporary foreign workers and refugees requires Lethbridge to provide consistent access to services from the federal government.

The rally takes place at 11 a.m. outside of Lethbridge Family Services – Immigrant Services.
