YWCA Bursting With Community Events For “Week Without Violence”

LETHBRIDGE – YWCA Lethbridge & District will host their annual “Week Without Violence,” from Oct 17 until Oct. 23 serving up a week-long series of community events promoting diverse approaches to creating a violence-free world.

SCHEDULE:

MONDAY: YWise Guys Boys Conference; open to boys in grades 9-12; students register through their schools; presented in conjunction White Ribbon, the world’s largest movement of men & boys working to end violence against women and girls; Southern Alberta Ethnic Association, starting at 9 a.m.

TUESDAY: How to Recognize Cyberviolence; a presentation open to the public; YWCA starting at 6 p.m. with free admission.

WEDNESDAY: Power of Being a Girl Conference; open to girls in grades 9-12; students register through their schools; Lethbridge Lodge, starting at 9 a.m.

Warm Cookies, Warm Hearts; for a donation, get a warm cookies (or a dozen!) and a warm beverage; YWCA from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Personal Protection Program demonstration; The YWCA Personal Protection Program is a six – week course designed to teach the essentials of personal protection starting with key safety plans to avoid dangerous situations as well as covering quickly learned principles for resolving a violent encounter; 6:15 p.m. at YWCA; this demonstration is free and open to the public.

THURSDAY: Books Build Better Brains; Free books for all pre-schoolers, as well as fun activities, snacks and a chance to tour the LPL Bookmobile; YWCA from 9:30 a.m. to noon

FRIDAY: Take Back the Night: walk from Galt Gardens (Rotary Plaza) to YWCA to raise awareness about violence against women and girls; starts at 7 p.m. at Galt Gardens.
