Family Center Inviting Public To Learn About Legacy of Residential Schools

LETHBRIDGE – The Family Centre will host Dr. Cheryl Currie as this year’s AGM presenter.

On Monday Sept. 19, Dr. Cheryl Currie, a specialist in Aboriginal health, strength and resilience, will present “Healing from Legacy of the Residential School System.”

Dr. Currie is an Associate Professor of Public Health at the University of Lethbridge and the Alberta Innovates Health Solutions Research Chair in Aboriginal Health and is known for her research and engaging presentation style.

Dr. Currie will speak on the legacy of the residential school system for Indigenous families, the impacts of adverse childhood experiences on physical and mental health, and how we can move forward to heal as families and communities.

A short AGM business meeting will follow and attendees are encouraged to stay, network and enjoy some snacks and beverages.

The Family Centre offers services aimed at avoiding minimizing access barriers to support services that aim to avoid child abuse, neglect and maltreatment.

The presentation kicks off at 4 p.m. in the Family Centre at Suite 225, Lethbridge Centre, 200 – 4th Avenue South.
