Wheels Turning on Tour of Alberta Race Celebration Excitment

Lethbridge – Festival, food and fun all part of cycling event

Spectators planning to catch this year’s Tour of Alberta finishing race day will be treated to more than just world class cycling, they will also get to enjoy plenty of free activities and entertainment.

The Tour’s Community Festival presented by the Crossings Shopping Centre will be held in Galt Gardens from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on race day, September 1.

There will be live performances and booths from local, provincial and international organizations and sponsors.

For families, there will be a SAAG Art Area, bouncy castles, balloon artists, a YMCA barbeque and Open Streets Calgary, who use interactive games to promote active transportation.

Lethbridge will support the cyclists, with viewers being able to watch the race on big screens set up outside as the cyclists pass the start/finish line at Galt.

For local cycling spectators arriving to the park on two wheels, a bike valet organized by local cycling group, Bikebridge will provide security for all bikes.

Leading up to the event, there are several free activities scheduled throughout the city.

From Monday, August 29 until Wednesday, August 31, there will be musicians performing on pedicabs in the downtown core over the lunch hour.

On Monday, August 29, the community is invited to cycle to an outdoor movie night in Galt Gardens featuring a selection of short films about cycling running from 7-9:30 p.m.

Lastly, the day before the race on August 30, Crossings Shopping Centre will host a family cycling festival.

From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. the public can meet can meet pro riders, get autographs and photos and participate in a bike scavenger hunt.
